Emma Welton
Violin
Emma Welton performs on violin and electric violin and is a member of [rout], Icebreaker and Black Hair. She has an eclectic musical background, having spent some years playing in numerous ceilidh bands, an Indian music band and a jazz quartet (on double bass).
Following a Masters course at York University, where she studied composition with Nicola LeFanu and violin with Mieko Kanno, Emma has specialised in the performance of new music but enjoys occasional forays into other musical worlds. Engagements in 2005 have included performances at the Lincoln Centre Festival and London's Almeida Theatre with Icebreaker and with [rout] at the Brighton Dome and the Cutting Edge Series, London. A particular interest in the working and performance methods of music theatre and dance has led to collaborative work with a number of composers including John Kefala Kerr and Paul Whitty. Emma also teaches the violin and runs the British Music Information Centre's Cutting Edge Tour.
