Maria Insua Cao

Clarinet

Maria Insua Cao studied clarinet at the University of Huddersfield and as a postgraduate student at the Royal Northern College of Music Manchester.

She has performed with many new music ensembles and in addition to Black Hair is at present a member of Chinook Clarinet Quartet, the Cornelius Cardew Ensemble and Vamos! With Chinook Maria has participated in the commissioning and premiering of dozens of new works for this genre, often collaborating intensively with composers. She has performed in many notable festivals and venues in the UK including Bridgewater Hall (Manchester), Queen?s Hall (Edinburgh), Wigmore Hall and Purcell Room (London). International tours with Chinook have included visits to Hungary, Germany, Poland and New York. They have also broadcast for BBC Radio 2, BBC Radio 3 and recorded two CDs. Recently Maria has formed a duo (SoundWorld) with Black Hair?s percussionist, Damien Harron that aims to collaborate with artists from a broad range of (often non-Western) musical backgrounds.
